is it bad to use a debit card to reserve a hotel room on hotels.com?

I am a student with student loans out and no credit card company will give me a card. I am planning a trip with my friends to Florida this August and all I have is a Visa Debit card. Is it a bad idea to use a debit card to book a room? I really have no other choice.
